Experience Lighting in a New Way

The inspiration behind the indoor floating lantern project came from a desire to create a magical, ethereal atmosphere using simple yet innovative materials. By combining helium, balloons, and lightweight balsa wood, the goal was to craft floating lanterns that would evoke a sense of wonder and serenity.

How does it float?

  • Balsa and Polyspan covering achieve an incredibly light light.

  • The perfect amount of helium keeps the lantern from sticking to the ceiling or the floor. The light floats gracefully around the room.

  • A large benefit of using helium is the lack of sound compared to other options like a quadcopter.

Lantern uses helium in a balloon and super light-weight construction. I created a device to release the precise amount of helium to achieve nuetral buoyancy.
